Overview
The 7-day Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and rewarding ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, offering a balance between acclimatization and trekking duration. Starting from the western side of the mountain, this route provides a quieter and more remote approach before joining the Machame Route.
Trekkers will experience diverse landscapes ranging from lush rainforest and moorland to alpine desert and the arctic summit zone. This route is ideal for climbers looking for a shorter version of Lemosho while still maintaining a strong chance of reaching Uhuru Peak.
The 7-day Lemosho Route is designed to provide good acclimatization while keeping the trek within a manageable timeframe. Although slightly shorter than the 8-day version, it still follows the important “climb high, sleep low” principle to help the body adjust to altitude.
With support from experienced guides, porters, and a dedicated crew, climbers are ensured safety and comfort throughout the journey. The trek offers spectacular scenery and a less crowded start, making it a favorite among those seeking both adventure and natural beauty. The highlight is the summit ascent, where you climb under the stars and reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise.

Tour Plan
Your journey begins with a drive from Arusha or Moshi to Londorossi Gate for registration. After completing formalities, you will proceed to the starting point and begin trekking through the lush rainforest. The trail is rich with vegetation and wildlife, including monkeys and birds. After a steady walk, you will arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp, where you will relax, enjoy dinner, and spend your first night on the mountain.

After breakfast, you will continue trekking through the forest as the landscape gradually changes into moorland. The trail becomes steeper, and the views begin to open up as you approach the Shira Plateau. You will arrive at Shira 1 Camp in the afternoon, where you can rest and enjoy the beautiful surroundings before dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will trek across the expansive Shira Plateau. The trail is relatively gentle, allowing for gradual altitude gain and good acclimatization. Along the way, you will enjoy stunning views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding landscapes. You will arrive at Shira 2 Camp in the afternoon for rest, dinner, and overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will ascend towards Lava Tower, reaching a higher altitude before descending again. This day follows the “climb high, sleep low” principle, which is important for acclimatization. The terrain becomes more rugged and alpine, offering dramatic scenery. After reaching Lava Tower, you will descend to Barranco Camp, located beneath the impressive Barranco Wall. Dinner and overnight will be at the camp.

After breakfast, you will climb the Barranco Wall, a challenging but rewarding section that offers spectacular views. After reaching the top, the trail continues across valleys and ridges as you head towards Barafu Camp. This is your base camp for the summit attempt. You will arrive in the afternoon, rest, and prepare for the night ascent with an early dinner before sleeping.

Around midnight, you will begin your summit attempt. The climb is steep and takes place in the cold and darkness as you make your way to Stella Point and then Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Reaching the summit at sunrise is a truly unforgettable experience. After celebrating and taking photos, you will descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and then continue down to Mweka Camp for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. The trail becomes greener and more vibrant as you lose altitude. Upon arrival, you will receive your summit certificates and celebrate your successful climb. You will then be transferred back to Moshi, marking the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
